HENRY BOON'S WILL:

Written September 13, 1873

In the name of God Amen

I Henry Boon of the County of Northampton in the State of North Carolina being of sound and disposing mind and memory, but conscious of the uncertainties of my earthly existence do make publish and declare the following to be my last will and testament, revoking any and all others heretofore made by me.

Item First: I lend unto my beloved wife Eliza S. during her natural life the plantation on which I now reside, except the Leake tract of land, and I give her absolutely, all my household and kitchen furniture, two mules first choice, any carriage and harness, one wagon and harness, two cows and calves, two sows and pigs first choice and one year support for herself and family.

Item Second: I lend to my daughter Adrienne Grant during her natural life my Urehaw Swamp plantation, except one hundred and fifty acres, to be taken off that portion of it which adjoins the Hill and Devereux plantations, and at her death I desire and bequeath the same to her children.

Item Third: I give and bequeath to my son Samuel B. Boone my mill, my Leake plantation, and my home place at the death of his mother, my book case and one feather bed and furniture.

Item Fourth: I lend to my daughter Lelia (or Selia) Summerell during her natural life my Deloatch plantation, upon which she now resides, except for one hundred and fifty acres to be taken from the broad side or end next to Henry Pate, beginning at the Garysburg road and running back so as to include that quantity, and at her death I give devise and bequeath said Deloatch plantation so loaned to my daughter to her child or children if she shall have any and in default of issue I devise the same at her death my other children and their heirs, the child or children of any deceased child to represent their ancestor and take such share as would the ancestor, if living.

Item Fifth: I give and devise my grandson James Barkley one hundred and fifty acres of my Urehaw Plantation to be taken from the portion of it next to the Hill and Devereux plantations.

Item Sixth: I give and bequeath to my granddaughter Ada Barkley one hundred and fifty acres of my Deloatch plantation to be taken from the portion next to Henry Pate as described in the fourth item of my will.

Item Seventh: I give my grandson Edward Barkley five dollars.

Item Eighth: All the remains of my estate I wish to be sold by my executor hereinafter named and the proceeds of such sale together with any money on hand, or money which may be collected and now due me I will appropriated to the payment of my just debts and expenses of settling my estate and if there is any balance I give and bequeath it to my children and grand children, my grandchildren to take and share between them.

Item Ninth: I nominate and appoint my friend William H. Hughes executor to this my last will and testament, In witness whereof I have herewith set my hand and seal this the 13th day of September 1873.

** Note: There are Probate documents submitted befor W.R. Odom, Probate Judge on December 23, 1873, defining the estate value at about $10,000, and identifying the heirs as:
" his widow Eliza, Adreanna wife of James S. Grant, Lilly wife of E.L.Summerell, Samuel B. Boone, Ada Barkley, James Barkley, and Edward Barkley, all residents of the County of Northampton and State of North except James Barkley, resident of the State of Florida. -- All of age except the last three, who are under age and without guardian.
