SOLOMON G. BOON'S WILL

Written May 1, 1862

I Solomon G. Boon of the County of Halifax and State of North Carolina being of sound and disposing mind and memory but conscious of the uncertainty of my earthly existence do make publish and declare the following to be my last will and testament in manner and form as follows.

Item first: I wish my just debts paid out of my perishable property and the residue of my estate of every kind and description I give devise and bequeath as follows.

Item second: I lend my beloved wife during her mortal life Negro man Abrum and Mary Ann, one bed and furniture, and an equal share with my children in the residue of my Estate namely my land and money that I may have at my death in possession or due me or may be accumulated by the sale of property. I give her absolutely one first choicehorse, one cow and calf one sow and pigs and a comfortable support for herself and family for one year. at the death of my wife, the slaves and other property loaned her I wish equally divided with all their increase among all my children and to be held as the other proper as I shal herein and after mention. I also lend unto my wife my interest in the negroes now at her mothers, her life, and at her death to her child or children. And I give her absolutely one hundred and fifty dollars in money.

Item third: I give devise and bequeath unto my present wife child or children two hundred and twenty five dollars it being money that come by the mother also an equal share of the residue of my entire Estateto have and to hold said property to him or them and their heirs forever.

Item fourth: I desire that an equal share of my Estate be allotted to my daughter Inderanes Flires, and that it shall remain in the hands of my Executors that I shall herein and after mention, and that she shall be entitled to the incomes of said property yearly during her life and at her death if she shal have a lawful begoten heir of her boddy, I give said property to them and their heirs forever, if not to the rest of my children except my said executor shall think it necessary to spend any portion of said share in educating the said Inderanes Flires, which I desire should have a good education and should the income of her share of my estate be insuffitiant for such purpus I desire done.

Item fifth: Should my perishable property and crop money be insufficient to pay my debts and the money legacys herein bequeathed I wish the slaves that my children wil get to be hired out until a sufficiency is raised for these purpos.

Item sixth: I hereby constitute and appoint Edmund Jacobs Executor to this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all others heretofore made by me in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this the 1st day of May A D 1862

Signed sealed published and delivered by the testator to be his last will and testament witnessing the same in his presence in the presence of each other and at his request, Witness: James L. Ourby and John O'Brien

Court of Pleas and Quarter Sesion, November Term 1865

This paper writing was exhibited in open Court and by the oath of James L Ourby one of the subscribing witnesses thereunto it was proved to be the last will and testament of Solomon G. Boon duly executed. Whereupon Edmund Jacobs the Executor therein named renounced and William C. Boon was permitted to Administer with the will unnexed. Witness: Jas. H Whitaker, Clk.
