
EDWIN BOON'S WILL:Written April 20, 1845In the name of God Amen Know all men by these presents that I Edwin Boon of the County of Northampton and State of North Carolina being sick of body but sound of mind and reason do make this to be my last will and testament. 1st - I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Margaret W. Boon my four negroes viz. Harriet and two children ( Joe and Louiza) and Amy to her and her heirs forever. 2nd - It is my desire that my man Jacob be hired out annually by my executor until the hires arising amount to the sum of two-hundred dollars and this amount to be paid over to and given to my beloved wife Margaret W. Boon as the hires annually become due until she receives this the sum of two-humdred dollars as specified. In case however of the death of my wife before the hires obtain the amount specified then the hires to go to my son James. 3rd - After the above amount of two hundred dollars is obtained out of the hires of my man Jacob for the benifit of my wife as specified then it is my will and desire for him (Jacob) to go to my son James and his heirs forever. 4th - I give and bequeath to my daughters Catherine and Martha to be divided equally between them all my interest in the negroes now in the possession of my Mother by loan from my Father which interest I bought of my brother Benford Boon. 5th - I give to my daughter Catherine one bed and furniture. 6th - I give to my beloved wife Margaret Boon one small table and one large table and my clock ........ ( a line is missing in the copy ) ....... 2 tubs 2 water barles one pair of andirons and shovel and tongs. 7th - I give and bequeath to my son James and my daughter Catherine all of my lands to be equally divided between them, in the case of the death of either then the other surviving one to have it. 8th - I give to my beloved wife Margaret W. Boon my buggie and harness and the choice of my horses (one) two cows and calves two sows and nine pigs such a quantity of bacon and corn and sugar molasses and coffee as any two or three disinterested persons may deem sufficent for her to keep house for the present year, also one cart and wheels. 9th - It is my will and desire that my executor provide out of my estate a comfortable support for my son James and daughter Catherine for the present year and they to remain with my wife if she will keep them or otherwise as my executor may think best. 10th - It is my will and desire that the balance of my property not disposed of be held together and my executor have the power to carry on and finish my present crop as he may think best, in which event he may also have the power to retain all my negroes for this purpose and the foregoing clauses in relation to them not to take effect until the end of the present year. 11th - It is my will and desire that all the balance of my property not named above be sold at such time as my executor may think best and after paying all my just debts if any surplus remain this amount to go to my son James including all moneys owing to me. 12th - I make my beloved brother William Boon my executor of this my last will and testament in witness thereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 20th day of April 1845.
