HENRY BOON'S WILL

Written July 18, 1826

In the name of God amen, I Henry Boon of the State of North Carolina and Northampton County, being weak in body but, thanks be to God, of sound mind and memory, do make this my last will and testament.

Item 1 I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Sarah Boon, the following property, viz. one tract of land lying and being in the County aforsaid near Smith's old Mill, which I purchased of Joseph D. Smith, also my four wheel carriage and harness, my riding horse strap all the stock cattle, hogs,horses and sheep in the plantation whereon she now lives and also the crop of corn fodder and cotton, the household and kitchen furniture of every description on said plantation and the following negroes, Nat, old Luke, Abby and Phillis that were formerly hers, and also Sophie. Ben formerly belonging to James Branch, Aggy and Rinsa and Maria and their increase to her and her heirs forever.

Item 2 I give and bequeath to my daughter Temperance Barkley the following negroes, viz, Exum and his wife Filly and their two children Liby and Mary. Abraham and his wife Rachael, Patty and old Hanna, with their increase to her and her heirs forever, to be taken away at the expiration of the year which I depart this life, also the negroes given to my wife to be given up at the same time.

Item 3 I give and bequeath to my daughter Temperance Barkley's son, just born, one negro boy named Jack if he lives, to him and his heirs forever.

Item 4 I give and bequeath to my son Thomas Boon, the land and plantation that formerly belonged to my brother Thomas Boon, when he reaches the age of nineteen years, to him and his heirs forever.

Item 5 I give and bequeath to my son Daniel Boon, the one half of the plantations at Stony, running a straight line from the Court House road to the p-- cowlin (** note: could be "per cowsin", a mis-spelling of pocosin, meaning swamp), and the other half to my son James Laurence Boon, to them and their heirs forever, to be delivered to them when they arrive at the age of nineteen years.

Item 6 I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary Boon, Thomas Boon, Daniel Boon, and James L.Boon, all the balance of my negroes and their increase not already given away, after paying my just debts. Mary Boon's to be delivered when married or at the age of nineteen years, also Thomas Boon, Daniel Boon and James L. Boon to be be given up when they arrive at the age of nineteen years, to them and their heirs forever. My desire is that my river land which I purchased of William M. Clark, John Green, Henry Lassiter be sold on a credit of six months, or at the discretion of my executor, and also all my corn crop and stock of every description at the Bynum Plantation on the River, also all of my crop of every description, kitchen furniture, plantation utinsils at my plantation formerly belonging to my brother Thomas Boon, also all of my crop of every description at the Stony Hill Plantation be sold on a credit of six months, Cotton excepted, after leaving out one years support of crop at Stony Hill for the support of my four children, Mary, Thomas, Daniel, and James L. Boon, and old negroes thats not fit to hire, that is to say old Davy and wife, old Lonnon and wife, old George and wife, old Jonas with such of the women and children as won't hire for something,two work horses, three feather beds and furniture, two cows and calves, five sows and pigs. Also I wish all my shoats that is of sufficent size to be fattened out of my crops of corn and carried to market and sold for cash. Also my cotton bail'd and sent to Petersburg to be sold for cash. It is also my desire that my negros remaining in a common stock be hired out by the year. Land rented also so as to be shifted, after reserving a sufficency for my children and old negroes to cultivate at the Stony Hill Plantation. It is also my desire that my machines and running gear, also my still be sold on a credit of six months and also the land and plantation near Smith's old mill be sold on a credit of six months, if my wife thinks proper to enter her descent to said will.

I nominate and make James H. Grant my whole and sole executor to this my last will and testament as above stated. Given unto my hand and seal this 18th day of July in the year of our Lord one-thousand eight-hundred and twenty six.
