I had the opportunity to spend a couple of weeks in the UK in the fall of 2002. One of our sons was working there temporarily, so along with the normal tourist-things, and time with the son, I spent a few days in the archives in London, trying to understand what information might be available, and learning how to find it.
That experience provided a wealth of new leads, directly, but more importantly, it provided a new perspective on English record-keeping, different from the familiar American resources, that has allowed me to mine new information from the internet, since my return.
I spent time in the PRO -- The Public Records Office, the Family Records Centre (these break up english records somewhere in the 1800's, with the older stuff in the PRO); then time at the Society of Genealogists Library, an obscure location, but a wealth of historical information !!!
We've been fortunate enough to make several additional visits, spending time researching Boon - Boone - Bohun lines in castles, churches and records offices all around the countryside. There is always more information collected than I can quickly arrange for this site, so the site will continue to slowly grow from these past adventures. . .
My research, and the integration of information provided by others, will be added to a page of Individuals and Families of the UK. The following online resources may also help you with additional research into your family genealogy in the United Kingdom. Remember to try several spellings of the desired name, on most of these engines, as they may deliver different results for each !!
