Rutledge, of South Carolina
RUTLEDGE, Andrew, Immigrated from Ireland in 1730, his younger brother in 1735. Was a Barrister. He married Sarah Boone Hext, daughter of John and Elixabeth Patey Boone, and widow of Hugh Hext. They have no children, but Sarah has a daughter, Sarah Hext, who marries her uncle (by marriage) Dr. John Rutledge. Sarah dies in Nov. 1743, and Andrew dies in Nov.1755.
RUTLEDGE, Dr. John, Arrives in Carolina from Ireland in 1735, 5 years after his older brother Andrew. He marries the step-daughter of his brother, Sarah Hext, and they have at least 5 sons: John Rutledge, Hugh Rutledge, and Edward Rutledge all become Lawyers, like their uncle Andrew. Son Andrew died in 1772, no children. Son Thomas was an officer in the Revolutionary War, but also died without children. |
