Most "Groups" provide hyperlinks to the prior generation and the next generation. Moving more than one generation in any direction is most easily accomplished on the INDEX page.NICHOLAS, son of Thomas Boon:5. NICHOLAS BOON: B: 1740 - 1755 ; D: 1807; M: after 1797; DEBORAH GUMBS (Gums); B: bef. 1773 ; D: 01/--/1826; dau. of Abraham Gumbs and Susannah ???; Nicholas would have been between 45-59 years old when (or IF) he married Deborah, so it is possible that there was another, earlier wife. We do know that Deborah has a son, named Elijah Gumbs at birth, before 1797, and that Nicholas Boon is required by the court in, Sept. 1797, to provide "10 pounds 3 shillings 9 pence" for 2-years maintenance of a bastard child. Deborah's will written 12/1825, probated 03/1826, mentions both daughters and grandchildren, but husband died before will was written. Same daughters are mentioned in distribution of property from Thomas Boon's estate in 1827-2 as heirs of Nicholas. ) ( John Pledger, Humphrey Gums, and Sally Love witnessed DEBORAH's will12/13/1825) Updated information, provided in response to these pages by Nicholas Boone, Karen Schramek and Jo Kendrick give us more detail concerning Elijah's descendants and the Lassiter descendants, through Susannah. 51. ELIJAH GUMBS (BOON): B: 12/12/1796 in northampton County; D: before 01/1845, probably in Livingstone, Missouri; Was the illegitimate son of the couple, based on papers filed in September court, 1797, where Nicholas Boon is required to pay "10 pounds 3 shillings 9 pence" for 2-years maintenance of a bastard child. Nicholas Boon, or at least his survivors, acknowlege Elijah as a heir, when they provide an oath saying that Nicholas meant to give two slaves to Elijah. This also indicates that Nicholas probably died without a will. Elijah appears to have used the name Elijah BOON, once he left Northampton County. He is not listed in his mother's will of 1825, but another child, Nicholas Nixon Gumbs, is listed a s a grandson, and may have been Elijah's son. The updated information indicates that Elijah married Nancy Evans (born 10/12/1796 in Northampton Co.) in Northampton County, N.C. on 02/17/1814. Nancy was the daughter of William and Sarah Hayes Evans, who were married on 04/14/1785. They had at least one child, but we don't know how many, so I'll use the temporarary numbering system here, hoping for more detail from readers. 51X.
