Boddie, on Thomas Boone:

Author John Bennett Boddie produced a number of books describing the conditions in, and records of, colonial Isle of Wight County in Virginia. In his series Historical Southern Families, volume #7, he described the only known BOONE family in that county. The first eight generations described obviously drew upon his general knowledge of Isle of Wight history, but also drew data from the specific descendants who contributed the later information.

For this reason, it is considered one of the more reliable genealogies we have, but still lacks hard evidence for many of its assumptions -- and must therefore remain suspect.

Generation One

Note that with all his knowledge of the Isle of Wight history, Boddie did not speculate on the maiden name of Thomas' wife; he did not indicate that her name might be Ratcliffe -- that error came from others.
