Thomas Boone is, as of this writing (summer 2006) the earliest known member of the family associated with the property above ths city of Dartmouth in Devon, called Mount Boone. According to his grave inscription found in St. Clements Church, in the Townstal neighborhood above Dartmouth in Devon, he was born about 1610, being 70-years old when he died on 26 January 1679. He married Dorothy Upton, the daughter of John Upton of Lupton, on 30 October 1636, St. Mary's, Brixham, Devon. She was born about 1618, being 39-years old when she died on 9 December 1659. Together, they had 16 children, but only 5 survived their parents.
The first few years of marriage appear to be spent at Mount Boone, or at least in the Dartmouth area, as their first few children are christened in St. Clements Church, Townstal. Later children are christened in London, St. Andrew Undershaft parish church, indicating their residence was in London.
Thomas Boone returned to Mount Boone after the restoration of Charles II, as his political career had been tied to Cromwell. It appears that while he had great wealth, and could extend political pressure in Devon through his national associates, he was never associated with the local corporation council, or held and local political office.
His son Charles Boone would represent the area in the House of Commons, at the time of his death in 1689.
