Unless you live in the southwest, or perhaps the Dakotas, its difficult for a typical American to contemplate a situation where the nearest university; or hospital; or food store; or individual, could be 200 miles away. The fact that we are Americans is the result of many individuals who did contemplate that reality, 370 years ago, at 10 times the distance I suggested, who successfully solved all the problems that arose and thrived on the challenges ! It was not a safe and secure existence, even years after the initial arrival. Of an estimated 12,000 individuals transported to the Virginia colony, less than 1500 were alive for the "muster" in 1622, xx years after the initial settlement. . . . UNDER CONSTRUCTION !
